These Halloween Dresses Are Shockingly Well-Made (But Size Up!)
My wife and I both ordered these 18th-century-style dresses for Halloween—mine in red, hers in green—and we were blown away by the quality. Sure, they’re technically costumes, and if this were 1790, the stitching and fabric might not pass muster. But for modern-day party wear? These things are built to last.
That said, do not trust the sizing. I originally ordered a medium, and let me tell you—that dress was not medium. I couldn’t even get it over my shoulders. If I had somehow squeezed into it, I’d still be trapped inside like a Victorian-era mummy, doomed to wear it forever. (I’m 5’2”, 125 lbs, for reference.) Thankfully, the large fits perfectly—snug but not suffocating.
The construction is what really impressed us. The fabric is sturdy cotton, not that flimsy polyester nonsense most costumes are made of. My wife’s green dress has these delicate embroidered details, and mine has boning in the bodice that actually gives it structure—not just cheap plastic strips that snap after one wear. The seams are reinforced, the lining is smooth, and the buttons are securely stitched (no risk of a wardrobe malfunction mid-party).
The only downside? Zero stretch. This isn’t some stretchy Amazon costume—it’s rigid, just like actual historical clothing. So if you’re between sizes, definitely size up. And maybe skip the buffet table while wearing it, because breathing room is limited.
Honestly, these dresses are so well-made that we’re already planning to reuse them—maybe for a fancy dress party, or just to dramatically answer the door on Halloween. If you want a costume that feels more like real clothing, this is it. Just… order bigger than you think you need.
