Costumes Long Gothic Victorian Dress
This gown is beautiful and definitely a step up from your run-of-the-mill Halloween costume. I’m short, just barely over 5’, and the skirt swept the floor, despite a full petticoat underneath (purchased separately) and my 2” heels. That is exactly what I wanted. My kids also played underneath the skirt like a tent for a portion of the evening, it doubles as a play tent too! 😂 I wear a 12/14. I went with the XL, thinking it’s easier to take in than let out, but since the back laces up, that wasn’t necessary. I had to explain to my husband how to get the laces nice and tight. The cut and fit is very flattering. I felt like a dark princess all night and was sad to take it off. It makes a satisfying swooshing sound as it sweeps the floor, but I will admit, I’ve had better dresses for twirling. That said, I love it so much that I will be wearing it again but styling it differently. I told my husband that I’ll wear it to church the first day services start back up post-COVID and he said that was being a bit extra. So I guess I’ll just save it for next Halloween.

My Dark Princess Moment

When I slipped into this gown for the first time, I knew it was something special—way beyond those flimsy Halloween costumes that fall apart after one wear. The rich fabric, the way the skirt pooled dramatically at my feet (even with heels and a petticoat!), the way my kids immediately ducked underneath it like it was their own secret fort—it all felt like magic. I may be barely over five feet tall, but in this dress, I felt regal.

I’d worried about sizing—I usually wear a 12/14—but the XL fit perfectly, especially with the laced back. (Though I did have to teach my husband how to properly tighten the strings—bless him, he tried.) The cut was shockingly flattering, hugging in the right places and flowing everywhere else. All night, I reveled in the way the skirt made a soft swoosh with every step, like I was gliding through my own gothic fairy tale.

The only downside? Twirling wasn’t quite as effortless as I’d hoped—this dress prefers drama over spins. But that’s a small complaint when I love it this much. I’m already plotting ways to wear it again. (Church? Too much? My husband thinks so. Halloween 2.0 it is, then.)

Some clothes just make you feel like the best version of yourself. This gown? It made me feel like a queen—or at least a very stylish villainess. And honestly? Worth every penny.
